Now: v0.3.4 current
Myellm is in private daily use on its author’s Linux machines. The repository remains private and unlicensed, and there is no public release date.
The daily loop
- Ask one model and read the answer as it streams.
- Search local history while typing, then open or copy a saved answer without another inference request.
- Reuse exact matches automatically; add semantic search and conservative, opt-in semantic reuse with a local embedding model.
- Retry, refine, retitle, unlink, soft-delete, undo, and redo without losing the underlying response history.
Models and setup
mm --setupconfigures cloud keys, your own endpoints, defaults, reasoning effort, profiles and notes, activation, the Omarchy bar icon, and appearance.Alt-MandAlt-Echange the model and effort for the next question without rewriting saved defaults.- Linux x86-64 can explicitly download an opt-in Ministral 3 3B model and llama.cpp runtime. Nothing downloads or becomes the ordinary default without consent.
Three working surfaces
- The full-screen
mmterminal UI, kept resident and summoned withSuper+Mon the hardware-tested Hyprland path. - A native Omarchy bar panel that can search, ask, stream, copy, retry, refine,
delete, undo, switch profiles, and open an answer in
mm. - A standalone Wayland
mm-widgetwith a prompt and live recents popup for supported layer-shell compositors.
Deliberate limits
- One model answers each question. Per-question choice exists; parallel dispatch does not.
- Saved answer bodies do not improve themselves yet.
- History belongs to one installation; there is no multi-device sync.
- The managed on-device model is Linux x86-64 only in v0.3.4.
- There is no API spending guard.
- Public packaging, licensing, and availability remain undecided.
Roadmap
Only the next private build has a version number. The outcome tracks after it are ordered by product dependency, not promised dates.
Next release: v0.3.5 · Mac as a first-class path next
The headline is an on-device Apple model, a native helper for Terminal.app, and activation that behaves correctly across monitors. The release track also includes tighter provider discovery and fallback, clearer ask/cancel behavior across the TUI and widgets, and parity work for the non-Omarchy widget.
Linux remains supported; v0.3.5 extends the local-first path rather than replacing it.
Make the memory improve planned
Semantic search, opt-in semantic reuse, feedback, title generation, response history, and durable undo already exist. The next memory work is about making the saved artifact better:
- Distill accumulated responses into an improved note body.
- Let the user freeze a note that should stop changing.
- Repair incomplete historical answers and incorrectly grouped questions.
- Add explicit permanent-deletion controls.
Parallel and portable planned
The daemon, versioned wire contract, and thin-client adapter are already in place. They are the foundation for:
- Ask several models at once, read the fast answer first, and promote or stop another response without restarting the question.
- Sync eligible history between machines while structurally excluding private and local-only records.
- Connect a lightweight client to a daemon over SSH or Tailscale.
Further out unscheduled
These directions remain intentionally unscheduled: optional context from Obsidian and MCP sources, answer export, response comparison and joins, API budgets, a phone client, prompt-conditioned automatic model selection, proposed cluster splits, and a public release with licensing and packaging.
Releases
These version numbers identify private dogfood builds. They package useful increments; they are not compatibility promises or a signal that Myellm is publicly available.
v0.3.4 · choose where and how answers run current
The setup and model-choice release. It adds full-screen setup, per-question model and reasoning-effort controls, the opt-in managed Linux model, your own endpoint flow, the native Omarchy bar client, and a substantially more capable Wayland widget.
v0.3.0–v0.3.3 · one daemon, several surfaces shipped
The daemon became the authoritative boundary for TUI and thin clients.
mm --json, live updates, the first Wayland widget, the full-screen TUI, wide
live previews, config diagnostics, and the myellmd rename landed across these
builds.
v0.2.0–v0.2.1 · keep the prompt within reach shipped
Resident activation, Hyprland and Omarchy integration, terminal-aware launching, theming, setup-assisted activation, and recoverable keyless startup moved Myellm from a command you launch to a prompt beside the work.
v0.1.0–v0.1.7 · make the daily loop worth using shipped
The first installable terminal app established streaming answers, local history, exact reuse, search as you type, copying, profiles, provider setup, one-shot commands, self-update, analytics, and answer-reading polish.
The changelog has the build-by-build details and upgrade notes.
What guides the order
Ship the smallest improvement worth using every day. Keep typing and local recall responsive. Preserve history, make mistakes visible and recoverable, and prefer a slower or more expensive correct answer to a silent wrong one. Public availability is a separate product decision, not the automatic result of the next version number.
